About the position

The Senior Research Analyst at the University of Michigan's Rackham Graduate School will manage the Institutional Research team's ambitious research agenda, focusing on the Michigan Doctoral Experience Study (MDES). This role involves designing, implementing, and disseminating research projects that enhance understanding of graduate student experiences and developmental trajectories. The analyst will collaborate with the director of institutional research to advance graduate education research and will play a key role in mentoring graduate student researchers.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement complex research projects using quantitative and mixed methods.
  • Analyze existing research data from disparate sources, including institutional data.
  • Identify opportunities for publication and create manuscripts, presentations, and other materials to disseminate research findings.
  • Identify opportunities to automate and improve existing data workflows.
  • Co-manage budget, regulatory processes (i.e., IRB, data sharing agreements, etc.) related to research projects.
  • Provide functional supervision, coaching, and mentoring to graduate student researchers working with the team.

Requirements

  • PhD in education/educational research or another social science with emphasis on advanced quantitative methods and survey research.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading large survey research projects including responsibilities for survey administration, data management, and dissemination of findings.
  • 3-5 years of experience with programmatic approaches to data manipulation and analyses using standard suite of tools (SAS, SQL, R, Python, Stata, MPlus).
  • 3-5 years of experience performing advanced statistical analyses using advanced techniques such as logistic regression, multilevel models, mixed models, and other similar approaches.
  • Previous experience combining institutional datasets and research datasets.
  • Experience working with research budgets, IRB submissions, and regulatory research protocols (MOUs, data sharing agreements, etc.).
  • Experience working and leading graduate students in research projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Interest and previous experience leveraging machine learning and AI to explore new areas of research.
  • Previous publication and work in the area of doctoral student development and graduate education research.
