About the position

The Senior Research Analyst at the Los Angeles Community College District is responsible for conducting complex and challenging research studies that are integral to the development and planning of educational programs. This role involves supervising a small research unit and overseeing various research activities that pertain to curricula, enrollment, retention, and student achievement, among other areas. The analyst will make recommendations for policies and procedures based on thorough analysis of current and proposed programs, ensuring that the findings align with the District's mission and objectives. In this position, the Senior Research Analyst will design, implement, and maintain specialized databases and information systems that facilitate research and planning activities. They will evaluate problems to determine their suitability for statistical inquiry and formulate the necessary investigative processes. The role also includes planning, assigning, and supervising the work of assigned staff, providing training, and analyzing trends in community college education to anticipate planning and information needs. The analyst will be responsible for collecting, compiling, and interpreting data, preparing complex research reports, and presenting findings in a clear and comprehensive manner. They will coordinate with faculty, staff, and administration on various aspects of planning and accreditation, ensuring that all research activities are aligned with institutional goals. The Senior Research Analyst will also act as a technical resource for college research staff and may represent their supervisor in their absence, making this a pivotal role within the research unit.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct complex research studies related to educational programs, planning, and development.
  • Supervise the activities of a small research unit.
  • Make recommendations for policies, procedures, and systems based on research analysis.
  • Design, implement, and maintain specialized databases and information systems for research activities.
  • Evaluate problems for statistical inquiry and formulate investigative processes.

  • Select and apply appropriate research and statistical techniques to specific studies.
  • Collect, compile, and analyze data related to various educational metrics.
  • Prepare complex research reports and presentations with analytical content.
  • Coordinate with faculty and staff on planning and accreditation processes.
  • Determine sources of data and select research samples accordingly.
  • Prepare research findings for publication in a technical format.
  • Explain research methodologies and findings to stakeholders.
  • Utilize software and digital tools for management information and reporting.

Requirements

  • Doctoral degree in social science research, economics, educational administration, or related field.
  • OR a master's degree with two years of professional-level experience in research or institutional planning.
  • OR a bachelor's degree with four years of professional-level experience in research or institutional planning.
  • Knowledge of higher education research concepts, methodologies, and terminology.
  • Proficiency in statistical methods and survey construction techniques.
  • Ability to plan, conduct, and evaluate complex research studies.
  • Skill in using computer software for data management and analysis.
  • Strong technical writing and data presentation skills.

Nice-to-haves
