About the position

The Senior Research and Data Solutions Analyst will assist in developing and preparing major institutional research studies, perform complex statistical analyses, and provide technical support related to research methodology and data reporting. This role aims to enhance decision-making processes through effective data management and analysis, while collaborating with faculty, staff, and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a learning/data analytics infrastructure for the campus
  • Develop and automate a learning analytics framework utilizing predictive modeling
  • Build front-end visualizations and data tools for the wider campus audience
  • Provide data coaching at all levels of the institution on analyzing and interpreting data to improve instruction, student, and administrative outcomes
  • Collaborate and consult with others on projects and needs related to research design and data solutions
  • Design research methodologies, analyses, and studies using sound, up-to-date research practices
  • Prepare written and oral reports on performance outcomes and student learning outcomes in a user-friendly way
  • Identify data resources, design research methodology, perform statistical analyses, and prepare institutional reports for federal and state-funded grants
  • Coordinate with external agencies to maintain integrity and facilitate acquisition of external database information
  • Extract, collect, analyze, and report data related to academic programs, curriculum, enrollment management, and student demographics
  • Design and develop online analytical processing cubes for regular posting to the Institutional Research Office web site
  • Download, format, and build longitudinal California Community College Chancellor's Office Management Information System database files
  • Design web-enabled, scannable, and hard copy survey forms utilizing specialized computer software
  • Work closely with institutional support staff involved in data collection and entry to ensure data integrity
  • Design and conduct studies that provide evidence of occupational course outcomes
  • Assist the Executive Director of Institutional Research in evaluating and responding to requests for research support
  • Monitor the progress of multiple research projects and develop appropriate project timelines
  • Coordinate, train, and provide work direction to assigned staff as appropriate
  • Represent the Institutional Research Office on internal and external committees and projects
  • Participate in various regional and state forums and organizations dealing with research in community colleges
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Institutional Research.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in social behavioral sciences, statistics, or related field
  • Two years of institutional research experience with formal preparation in research design, research methodology, and statistical analysis
  • Knowledge of univariate, multivariate, and non-parametric statistics
  • Sound research practices related to research methodology, research design, and principles of survey design
  • Familiarity with software packages used for statistical analysis
  • Database management and design expertise
  • Understanding of the California Community College System and its relationship to local community college institutional research offices
  • Ability to independently identify, investigate, and define research issues
  • Strong presentation skills for large and small audiences
  • Ability to understand and carry out complex instructions
  • Expertise in data management and predictive modeling
  • Knowledge of visualization software such as Tableau or R-Shiny
  • Ability to collaborate and provide guidance on research and data implications for decision-making
  • Sensitivity to diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution in social behavioral sciences, statistics, or related field
  • Two years of community college research experience.
