About the position

The Senior Research Associate position at The Conference Board of Canada involves conducting applied social sciences research focused on the impact of technology and innovation on the Canadian economy. The role requires a multidisciplinary approach to address complex research questions related to disruptive technologies, automation, and government innovation policies. The successful candidate will produce high-impact reports that inform decision-makers and provide actionable recommendations, while collaborating with various stakeholders in a virtual work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Director, Principal Research Associate, team members, and external partners to plan and execute research projects.
  • Apply qualitative data collection methods, including interviews and focus groups, and analyze relevant documents.
  • Conduct thematic, narrative, and content analysis to generate data-driven insights and make evidence-based recommendations.
  • Produce high-quality research reports, articles, and proposals on emerging technologies and innovation policies.
  • Support project management to ensure deliverables are on-time and meet client expectations.
  • Manage councils and engage members in thought-leadership conversations.
  • Communicate research results effectively to senior industry executives and government policymakers.

Requirements

  • An advanced degree (Masters or PhD) in innovation/public policy, social sciences, economics, or a related field.
  • A minimum of five years of research experience in innovation and technology themes.
  • Ability to lead research design and primary data collection activities using qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to handle multiple responsibilities and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear and concise reports; published work is an asset.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and qualitative data analysis software such as NVivo.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bilingualism is an asset.
  • Experience with data visualization software like Power BI.
  • Experience with web scraping tools for data collection.
