The Senior Research Associate & Lab Manager at the Innovative Genomics Institute (IGI) will play a pivotal role in a multidisciplinary research team focused on understanding human microbiome interactions through organoid models. This position is crucial for the development and refinement of organoid models derived from stem cells, which will enhance the ability to model human biology and disease. The Senior Research Associate will lead research and innovation in stem cell biology and organoid technology, contributing to translational research efforts aimed at improving the understanding and treatment of various diseases. Responsibilities include cultivating organoid cultures, conducting molecular biology experiments, and preparing samples for high-throughput DNA sequencing. The role also involves designing and executing independent experiments that align with the broader objectives of the project, analyzing data, and drawing conclusions to contribute to the progress of research projects. The Senior Research Associate will utilize innovative techniques such as CRISPR/Cas9 to introduce specific mutations in organoid models for functional studies, and will develop and validate robust assays for functional characterization of organoids, including live-cell imaging and single-cell RNA sequencing. Additionally, the position entails performing functional analyses of organoid models to study the effects of genetic modifications or drug treatments on cellular processes. As a lab manager, the Senior Research Associate will oversee daily laboratory operations, which include maintaining equipment, managing inventory, enforcing safety protocols, and coordinating lab schedules and resources to ensure efficient functionality. The role also involves leading other employees, overseeing junior researchers, associates, and undergraduates, providing guidance, ensuring projects stay on schedule, and fostering a collaborative and productive work environment. Training new lab members in relevant techniques, protocols, and safety procedures is also a key responsibility, ensuring they become proficient contributors to the research team and uphold a high standard of work quality.
