About the position

We are looking for a highly motivated Senior Research Associate or Entry level Scientist (DOE) to develop and conduct pre-clinical Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, and Excretion (ADME) parameter determination assays to evaluate potential therapeutics. Assay requests range from standard screening assays used to determine ADME properties of pharmaceutical candidates to developing and validating definitive assays from scratch following literature review. Standard assays include solubility determination (kinetic and thermodynamic), tissue and enzyme stability (microsomes, hepatocytes, plasma, blood, etc), phenotyping, protein binding (RED, HTPB, and ultracentrifugation), permeability, tissue partitioning, enzyme/transporter substrate/inhibitor determination and many others. We also employ robotic automation, HPLC and LC-MS/MS-based data analysis to enable high throughput screening. This position works with an interdisciplinary team of DMPK scientists, pharmacologists, and analytical chemists. It is lab-based, collaborative, and client-facing. While delivering accurate, scientifically sound results is our priority, we pride ourselves in being exceptionally responsive and flexible for our clients, using creativity and efficiency to meet their drug discovery goals.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and run defined protocols for various 96-well and 384-well plate-based assays daily.
  • Analyze results using in-house and client-developed templates.
  • Identify and troubleshoot errors and assess validity of unexpected results.
  • Help develop and establish new assays to address individual clients' needs.
  • Maintain and use cells in culture.
  • Assist with preparing informal and formal protocols and reports.
  • Discuss with colleagues and clients about experimental design and results.
  • Maintain a lab notebook.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

Requirements

  • MS in cell biology, biochemistry, or related field. PhD preferred.
  • 3+ (MS) or 0+ (PhD) years of related experience in the biotech, pharma, or preclinical CRO industry.
  • Experience with cell culture, buffer preparation, HPLC, mass spectrometers, cellular assays, and handling tissues.
  • Prior experience developing assays to assess compound properties and ADME/DMPK parameters.
  • Previous experience in a discovery project is highly desired.
  • Understanding of ADME screening processes would be helpful.
  • Understanding of drug-drug interaction (DDI) determination and the ICH guidance would be helpful.
  • Excellent organization, planning, and communication skills.
  • Critical attributes: attention to detail, self-motivated, willingness to ask questions.
