About the position

The Senior Research Data Analyst at Old Dominion University plays a crucial role in developing and maintaining a sophisticated data infrastructure that supports evidence-based decision-making across the institution. This position is tasked with creating automated, actionable, and accurate reporting dashboards that facilitate the analysis and presentation of data to both internal and external stakeholders. The analyst will engage in comprehensive data analysis, producing ad hoc reports and modeling studies that inform strategic planning and operational effectiveness within the university. In this role, the analyst will leverage considerable programming expertise in languages such as SAS, SQL, Python, and SPSS to manipulate and analyze data effectively. A strong understanding of data management strategies is essential, as the analyst will be responsible for cleaning, standardizing, filtering, and transforming data into usable datasets. The ability to integrate data from various sources, including databases and data warehouses, is critical for the successful execution of the analyst's responsibilities. The position requires exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills, as well as the ability to work independently on multiple tasks with minimal supervision. The analyst will also be expected to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of constituents, both technical and non-technical, ensuring that data insights are communicated clearly and effectively. Additionally, the role may involve working during university closures, including potential remote work, as directed by supervisors.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a complex data infrastructure to support evidence-based decision making.
  • Build automated, actionable, and accurate reporting dashboards.
  • Analyze data and develop ad hoc reports and modeling studies for internal and external constituents.
  • Clean, standardize, filter, and transform data to create datasets ready for analysis.
  • Integrate data from different sources, including databases and data warehouses.
  • Collaborate with diverse technical and non-technical stakeholders to communicate data insights effectively.
  • Work independently on multiple tasks with minimal supervision.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in math, statistics, computer science, psychology, or related field, or a Bachelor's degree with equivalent work experience.
  • Considerable programming expertise in SAS, SQL, Python, SPSS, or similar.
  • Working knowledge of data management strategies.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Strong skills in data cleaning, standardization, filtering, and transformation.
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate data from various sources.
  • Ability to learn and apply new technologies, both hardware and software.
  • Considerable experience with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel.
  • Experience developing and maintaining dashboards, reports, and displays.
  • Experience in report writing, programming, or project management.
