About the position

Hover is at the forefront of transforming the home improvement industry through innovative technology, particularly in the realm of computer vision. As a Senior Research Engineer specializing in Computer Vision, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our 3D data platform, which is essential for providing homeowners, contractors, and insurance professionals with accurate and interactive property models. Your work will directly impact how users visualize their projects, answering critical questions about aesthetics and costs with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced imaging techniques. In this position, you will be tasked with designing, implementing, and refining generative AI algorithms that facilitate image generation and scene understanding. This involves not only theoretical knowledge but also practical application, as you will engage in rapid prototyping to test hypotheses and explore innovative solutions to complex challenges. Collaboration is key; you will work closely with a diverse team of designers, engineers, and operations staff to bring your ideas to fruition, ensuring that your contributions align with both technical and business objectives. Your role will also encompass mentoring junior team members and providing technical leadership within the computer vision group. As you deepen your expertise, you will help shape the direction of our technology and contribute to the overall growth of the organization. Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, improve, and evaluate generative AI algorithms and systems for image generation and scene understanding.
  • Develop creative solutions and novel algorithms in an applied research setting through rapid prototyping to validate hypotheses and identify promising directions to solve failure cases.
  • Mentor and contribute to the growth of the computer vision group while deepening your technical expertise.
  • Provide technical leadership and guidance to team members and the broader organization.

Requirements

  • Substantial experience developing algorithms for image/3D generation in academic research or industrial settings.
  • Deep theoretical understanding and practical experience in developing novel algorithms for generative models such as diffusion models, GANs, VAEs, and emerging methods.
  • Experience in exerting control over generative model outputs in novel ways, such as controlnets.
  • Proficiency in training image-based feature detectors including surface normals, depth maps, geometric primitives, semantic segmentation, and object detection.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills and excellent software development skills.
  • Comfortable building prototypes in Python.
  • Highly competitive and passionate about solving hard technical problems.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to thrive amidst ambiguity and uncertainty.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • PhD related to Image Generative Models.
  • Strong track record of research in related areas, preferably with publications in top-tier venues such as CVPR, ICCV, ECCV.
  • Practical experience in writing robust and maintainable production code.
