About the position

As a Senior Research Engineer at Thomson Reuters Labs, you will engage in innovative machine learning research and development within a collaborative global team. This role focuses on solving complex machine learning problems using a wealth of data and state-of-the-art technical infrastructure, contributing to both research publications and proprietary AI model development.

Responsibilities

  • Innovate new ML/NLP/IR/GenAI approaches and mentor junior engineers.
  • Engage in the entire research and model development lifecycle, including brainstorming, designing, building, and delivering software frameworks.
  • Collaborate with engineers and scientists within Thomson Reuters and academic partners.

Requirements

  • Relevant degree in a technical discipline.
  • Work experience in a challenging engineering setting, building high-quality software frameworks for research.
  • Excellent programming, debugging, and system design skills.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting and presenting software designs and findings.
  • Curious and innovative disposition capable of devising novel algorithmic solutions.
  • Self-driven attitude with the ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Familiarity with cloud tools such as Amazon AWS, MS Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, agile environments.

Nice-to-haves

  • Contributions to publications at relevant venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, ACL, EMNLP, NAACL.
  • Experience with large language model (LLMs) research topics such as distributed computing and scalable data pipeline systems.
  • Previous experience working on large-scale machine learning systems.
  • Strong software and/or infrastructure engineering skills, evidenced by contributions to open-source libraries.
