About the position

The Senior Research Engineer at Argonne National Laboratory will lead research efforts in industrial and building decarbonization, focusing on end-use applications. This role involves developing a research portfolio centered on heat pumps and low-carbon fuels for industrial equipment, establishing a world-class research program, and engaging with external sponsors for funding and collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Carry out a world-class research program for industrial and building decarbonization.
  • Train postdoctoral researchers and students as appropriate.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences.
  • Participate in public outreach activities to disseminate knowledge and raise awareness.
  • Contribute to the development of a strategic research plan aligned with multiple DOE Offices.
  • Perform and guide experimental research and set up a state-of-the-art laboratory for testing.
  • Perform and guide computational fluid dynamics (CFD) research and improve existing computational tools.
  • Identify emerging trends and propose innovative research directions.
  • Cultivate relationships with external stakeholders to secure funding and establish collaborative initiatives.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in mechanical or chemical engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in leading or conducting research in industrial and building decarbonization technologies.
  • Proven track record of leading multidisciplinary research teams and delivering impactful outcomes.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and experience presenting research findings.
  • Skilled communication and interpersonal skills to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
