About the position

The Senior Research Engineer for Solid Oxide Fuel/Electrolyzer Cells at GE Vernova is responsible for leading the development and analysis of electrochemistry systems related to solid oxide fuel cells (SOFC) and solid oxide electrolysis cells (SOEC). This role focuses on driving innovation in energy conversion and storage technologies, contributing to sustainable solutions for the energy transition. The engineer will work on various projects, collaborating with multiple stakeholders to advance the company's mission of electrifying and decarbonizing energy systems.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct and lead projects in energy conversion and storage, focusing on solid oxide fuel cells and solid oxide electrolysis cells.
  • Conduct and lead basic and applied research including electrochemistry system design and analysis, SOFC and SOEC development and optimization, fuel cells testing, postmortem analysis, performance and stability data analysis, and modeling.
  • Work independently and guide the development of new technologies and capabilities for solid oxide cells in existing and new products.
  • Design and execute experiments, leading tasks to benefit GE Vernova businesses and customers.
  • Shape proposals with GE Vernova businesses, government agencies, universities, and national laboratories, contributing as Principal Investigator or team member.
  • Formulate system requirements for energy conversion projects.
  • Prepare written reports and presentations for stakeholders detailing the value, strategy, approach, and results of work.
  • Coordinate analytical work to define and meet or exceed customer entitlements.
  • Develop and identify new technology, products, and service opportunities in energy conversion and storage.
  • Connect the organization to the latest technology developments and trends.
  • Be aware of competing and disruptive technologies to develop robust technology for the business.

Requirements

  • Doctorate Degree in Electrochemistry or related field with a minimum of 16 years of experience in designing and developing solid oxide cells and systems for fuel formulation and production.
  • Proven record of innovation in energy storage and conversion technologies, including solid oxide fuel or electrolysis cells, and system integration, cells assembly, performance testing.
  • Practical knowledge of safety practices related to experimental design and lab practices.
  • Demonstrated project execution experience, teamwork experience, and ability to work across all functions/levels as part of a team.
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Expertise in Electrochemistry testing for SOFC and SOEC device and stacks system design and analysis.
  • Experience at a commercial solid oxide cell manufacturer or at a government research facility in the area of solid oxide fuel cells or electrolysis cells.
  • Demonstrated history of project leadership, publications, and IP generation in the area of solid oxide fuel and/or electrolysis cells.
  • Strong data analytical skills and creative problem-solving skills using innovative and hands-on solutions.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a career-oriented mindset in industrial research.
