About the position

As our Senior Research Finance Analyst, you will independently develop and oversee research proposals, awards, and transactions related to contract and grant management. This role requires maintaining contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. You will work on proposals and awards of diverse scope where analysis of data requires a thorough understanding of complex regulations. Additionally, you will complete and approve transactions for signature by the manager or other authorized institutional officials. In the area of proposal coordination, you will independently review various levels of funding opportunity announcements and communicate with sponsors or UCLA offices for clarification. You will collaborate with the Principal Investigator (PI) to develop timelines and establish clear responsibilities for effective proposal coordination. Serving as the main liaison between the PI, collaborating investigators/institutions, funding agencies, and University central offices is a key aspect of this role. For proposal preparation, you will proficiently engage in formatting documents, compiling materials, and uploading to internal and sponsor portals, ensuring compliance with guidelines. You will prepare the technical aspects of proposals for submission, including drafting, revising, and finalizing proposal sections, budgets, budget justifications, biosketches, and other support materials. In terms of compliance, you will independently submit protocols to obtain required usage approvals for human and animal subjects, biohazards, etc. You will take responsibility for disclosing export control-related data or conflicts of interest and ensure compliance with procedures for biosafety, data security, and other relevant regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • High School Diploma.
  • 5+ years of research administration experience.
  • Experience preparing, managing, and projecting budgets.
  • Mathematical skills for the preparation of complex calculations and forecasts and to identify and resolve complicated financial scenarios.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with a variety of external sponsors, federal and state sponsors, private foundations, industry sponsors, etc.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
