About the position

The Senior Research Finance Analyst is responsible for the post-award administration of research contracts and grants within the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics. This role involves providing advisory and transactional services, managing complex financial transactions, ensuring compliance with institutional and sponsor policies, and potentially guiding less experienced staff. The Analyst will utilize advanced knowledge in contracts and grants to assess and manage high-volume transactions, and may serve as a technical specialist in specific areas of research administration.

Responsibilities

  • Independently manage post-award administration for multiple Principal Investigators.
  • Provide advisory and transactional services in all areas of post-award.
  • Review and guide others in financial and administrative management of research contracts and grants.
  • Assess complex grant, contract, and subcontract transactions requiring in-depth evaluation.
  • Possibly review and sign transactions for less experienced staff.
  • Serve as a technical specialist in areas such as federal contracts or information systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area or equivalent experience/training.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience.
  • Ability to manage high volume and complex transactions.
  • Ability to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Demonstrated advanced competence in spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis.
  • Strong organization and communication skills with a customer service focus.
  • Knowledge of sponsor, institutional, and departmental policies and compliance regulations.
  • Advanced knowledge of accounting, fiscal, and reporting principles.
  • Ability to interpret policy for others.

Nice-to-haves

  • Extensive knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors.
  • Advanced knowledge of compliance requirements related to human or animal subjects in research.
  • Experience with various award mechanisms including grants and contracts.
  • Full knowledge of Federal Acquisition Regulation and sponsor-specific policies.
  • Advanced knowledge of grant funding processes and techniques.
  • Ability to train others in grant writing and communication skills.
