About the position

As a Senior Research Scientist on the AI/ML team at CZI, you will develop and apply advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning methods to address significant challenges in life sciences. This role focuses on leveraging large-scale multimodal biological datasets to create models that enhance our understanding of cellular systems, contributing to CZI's mission of curing, preventing, or managing all diseases by the end of this century. You will collaborate with scientists, computational biologists, and engineers, and engage with the global scientific community to promote open science and innovation in digital biology.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, deploy, and maintain innovative machine-learning models that further our understanding of complex biological systems.
  • Solve important problems in life science through the application of state-of-the-art methods in AI/ML and computer vision.
  • Implement scalable solutions for complex scientific questions on large-scale datasets using machine learning approaches, predictive models, and statistical analysis.
  • Advance community standards for dissemination, presentation, and evaluation of computational approaches to core scientific problems.
  • Contribute to the scientific community through publishing papers, blog posts, open source code, and attending conferences in machine learning and life sciences.
  • Work with a diverse range of biological data types, including multi-omics data, cell/tissue images, time lapse microscopy, and cryo-ET tomography.

Requirements

  • PhD or Masters in computer science (focus on machine learning and/or computer vision), computational biology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience with at least 5 years of experience developing and applying machine learning methods.
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building, and training computer vision and AI/ML models, ideally for multi-modal imaging problems in biology.
  • Technical fluency in AI, machine learning, computer vision, data integration, or computer science on varied large-scale datasets.
  • Good working knowledge of Python-based ML libraries and frameworks such as PyTorch, Jax, Pyro, NumPy, and Pandas.
  • Experience with manipulation and visualization of complex image datasets.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proven track record of relevant research publications, preprints, or software packages.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in open science and digital biology.
  • Enthusiasm for collaborative research in cell biology data-driven projects.

Benefits
