Job Code 33244 Recruitment Pool All Applicants Posting Number req6530 Unit School Of Medicine MBU Department Department of Pathology Department Website Link Location VCU Address 907 Floyd Ave, Richmond, VA 23284 USA Duties & Responsibilities Summary: We are seeking applications from highly motivated Senior Research Scientists to join the Department of Pathology at Virginia Commonwealth University. Our lab focuses on the therapeutic antibody development and drug repurposing projects in human cancer. The Senior Research Scientist will be responsible for developing, conducting, and supervising translational/clinical research in the above research themes and overseeing administrative activities of the lab in conjunction with the Principal Investigator. Typical Duties: Plan and execute experiments using lab techniques including, but not limited to: isolation of protein, DNA & RNA, Northern and Southern blot hybridization, restriction DNA mapping, PCR, cell culture, transfections, yeast hybrid-screening, immuno-detection methods, flow cytometry, confocal microscopy, PET/CT imaging of small animals. Collect and analyze data from lab experiments and collaborator studies. Ensure timely ordering of laboratory chemical and supply inventories by personnel. Implement improvements in any aspect of the research undertaken in the group. Update laboratory equipment control software, as releases become available, and ensure devices are functioning properly Provide technical training of technicians, graduate and undergraduate students, and postdoctoral fellows. Provide input in this regard to supervisor as personnel evaluations are conducted. Ensure integrity of testing and compliance with university and external regulatory offices (IACUC, IRB, OEHS,DEA, etc.). Serve as contact person for university compliance offices and prepare all materials and site for inspections. Assist PI with writing and editing initial drafts of manuscripts for publication in scientific journals. Keep abreast of historical and current scientific literature pertinent to the laboratory's activities. Present new findings at regularly scheduled laboratory meetings. Maintain bibliographic databases for reference and use in reports and publications. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: Ph.D. or higher degree in biological sciences with an emphasis on cell/molecular biology, with several years of postdoctoral training and lab managements. Ability to conduct independent in vivo and patient-related research projects and analyze data scientifically. Knowledge of the appropriate scientific literature, laboratory procedures and practices Must possess documented medical writing and composition skills, resulting in published scientific reports and manuscripts. Competency with statistical and graphing software. Must have a demonstrated commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in past experiences or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU. Preferred Qualifications Ph.D. or higher degree in biomedical science with a strong background in biochemical/molecular methodologies, drug repurposing, and therapeutic biologics.
