About the position

The Senior Research Scientist at NYU Grossman School of Medicine plays a crucial role in advancing scientific research within the laboratory of a Principal Investigator (PI). This position involves independent research, collaboration with PIs, and the management of laboratory operations, contributing to the institution's mission of improving human health through education and research.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Principal Investigators and work independently within the scientific framework of the PI's laboratory.
  • Initiate, interpret, organize, execute, and coordinate research assignments critical to the department's mission.
  • Formulate and conduct research on complex problems.
  • Explore subject areas and define the scope of problems for investigation.
  • Make decisions and recommendations impacting extensive scientific research activities.
  • Develop new ideas that promote current research and exercise creativity in planning and organizing research programs.
  • Manage laboratory operations by supervising Post Docs and technicians.
  • Oversee maintenance and upkeep of laboratory instruments and facilities.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of research projects.
  • Provide technical guidance to students on sample preparation techniques and laboratory practices.
  • Seek grant funding for independent research projects with consent from the PI and Department Chair.
  • Participate in writing grant proposals and ensure research/lab quality control and compliance.
  • Develop protocols for data collection and quality assurance.
  • Maintain knowledge of advances in specialized fields through scientific conferences.
  • Contribute to scientific papers as a resource, author, or co-author.
  • Provide recommendations for equipment purchases and lab space redesign.
  • Coordinate experimental design between various labs and collaborators.
  • Identify and resolve technical problems.
  • Serve on internal committees to further research project goals.

Requirements

  • PhD in a relevant field.
  • 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Substantial experience from Post Doc training.
  • Established record of publications.
