About the position

The Research Scientist Senior will work closely with Dr. Alex Greninger to lead and develop projects focused on clinical immune profiling of viral diseases. This role involves the design and validation of high-throughput assays, managing research projects, and overseeing technical personnel in the Virology Division. The position emphasizes research and project management, with a strong focus on optimizing immunological assays and improving laboratory workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Dr. Alex Greninger on clinical immune profiling projects.
  • Develop and validate high-throughput binding serologies and functional serologies.
  • Manage and coordinate research efforts in laboratory automation of serological and cellular immunity assays.
  • Lead automation efforts in Virology research laboratories using liquid handlers.
  • Develop process improvements for high complexity immunology tests.
  • Implement clinical research validation for virologic test services.
  • Facilitate and lead the harmonization of immunology workflows across laboratories.
  • Oversee the creation of technical development documentation for Virology Division tests.
  • Negotiate with vendors for reagents and instrumentation.
  • Assist in planning annual division research and development goals.
  • Interact with laboratory clients regarding technical development aspects.
  • Assist in test interpretation and reporting from validated tests.
  • Review quality control data for Virology Division laboratories.
  • Supervise employees in the Greninger Laboratory, including hiring and training.
  • Mentor and evaluate performance of laboratory staff.

Requirements

  • PhD in Immunology, Virology, Biology, Microbiology or closely related field.
  • Six years of experience in collaborative project design within clinical immunology and/or viral biology.
  • Expertise in primer/probe design for PCR genomic assay design.
  • Experience in genomic library preparation and analysis techniques.
  • Strong writing skills and ability to complete projects.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in evaluating viral sequence diversity.
