About the position

The Senior Research Technician role at FM involves providing technical support for the instrumentation department, focusing on electronics, data acquisition, and test instrument setup. The position requires designing and fabricating apparatus for various testing labs, ensuring accurate measurements, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining effective communication with supervisors. The role also includes mentoring junior technicians and developing technical procedures with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical knowledge in electronics and data acquisition for instrumentation and software used in testing.
  • Design, fabricate, and construct apparatus to support testing and campus operations without supervision.
  • Make timely and accurate measurements during assigned projects.
  • Setup and operate equipment for projects.
  • Troubleshoot problems and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team to accomplish project goals.
  • Prepare and present clear and concise data in a prescribed format.
  • Keep supervisors informed of the status and progress of all work in process.
  • Identify systems and processes needing improvement and develop plans to improve them.
  • Maintain proficiency in technical skills and testing procedures.
  • Provide guidance to Research Technicians and Sr. Research Technicians when necessary.

Requirements

  • High School/Trade School or Military specialist training with 3 years general mechanical or electrical experience.
  • Laboratory testing, product assembly, equipment repair, mathematical computation, or data tabulation skills.
  • Knowledge of calibration and calibration procedures.
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel.

  • Ability to prioritize and organize daily and weekly workflow with minimal supervision.
