About the position

AECOM is actively seeking a creative, highly talented, and motivated Senior Roadway/Highway Design Engineer to enhance the capabilities of the AECOM Chicago, IL office. Responsibilities will include the development of technical concepts and designs, and the preparation of documents, specifications, and estimates. Projects may include roadways/highways, bridges, utilities, and misc. facilities related to transportation or infrastructure projects for a range of prospective clients, including state, county, and local agencies as well as private entities.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as a fully capable professional in the field with minimal direction.
  • Applies advanced knowledge to develop design procedures software and tools to facilitate high quality cost-effective technical project activities.
  • Develops estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Manages communication and collaboration with full design team and client.
  • Conducts interdisciplinary review of project deliverables and develops estimates of technical efforts for projects.
  • Oversees the development and implementation of technical approach and the completion of complex work which require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity.
  • Initiates and creates project designs and plans with responsibility for preparing presentation and design drawings.
  • Prepares designs, calculations, sketches, diagrams, schematic drawings and working drawings.
  • Exercises considerable latitude in determining technical objectives of assignment.
  • May oversee the work of less experienced designers.
  • Meets with clients and oversees all aspects of the project to ensure client satisfaction in project deliveries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of relevant experience or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

Nice-to-haves

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience managing transportation tasks and/or projects
  • Professional Engineer license
  • Familiarity with IDOT, ISTHA, and local agency specifications, policies, and procedures.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management.
  • Computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel, CAD and Design software packages.
  • Ability to proactively communicate.
  • Established relationships with local clients.
  • Alternative delivery experience.
