About the position

The Senior Roboticist position at Actalent involves designing, developing, and supporting advanced robotic manipulation software for production environments. The role focuses on creating high-performance software solutions that enhance robotic capabilities, particularly in motion planning, kinematics, control strategies, and motion execution. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with hardware engineers and product managers to integrate software capabilities into broader robotic systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support advanced robotic manipulation software deployed in production environments.
  • Create high-performance software solutions for robotic manipulation, focusing on motion planning, kinematics, control strategies, and motion execution.
  • Utilize and extend simulation software environments to test and refine manipulation development, ensuring expected and robust performance.
  • Develop software to enable multi-arm manipulation capabilities.
  • Work closely with hardware engineers, product managers, and other software teams to integrate capabilities into our broader robotic systems.
  • Communicate technical priorities and status effectively.

Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or a closely related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in software development applied to robotic manipulation.
  • Proficiency in robotics, Python, ROS, and Linux.
  • Experience in robotic manipulation, motion planning, motion execution, and multi-arm coordination.
  • Strong understanding of robotic kinematics, environment representation, and simulation tools.
  • Expertise in system design, design patterns, and software development using Linux.
  • Knowledge of C++ and RTOS.
  • Experience with ROS 2, MoveIt!, and OpenRAVE.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • Experience with drivers for robotic hardware such as Fanuc Robot arms.
  • Familiarity with APIs and SDKs for robotic systems.
  • Proficiency with RESTful services, gRPC, parallel and distributed systems.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases like MongoDB.
  • Knowledge of Docker ecosystem.
