About the position

As a Senior Robotics Engineer in the Maximo team at AES Corporation, you will play a crucial role in the development of advanced robotics software and capabilities that are integral to our solar module installation robotic system. This position is not just about coding; it involves leading the development of the entire robotics software stack that powers Maximo, our innovative AI-enabled robot designed to expedite the construction of solar projects. You will be responsible for developing sophisticated software across various programming languages, optimizing advanced algorithms, and steering the technical roadmap for the robotics segment in alignment with our overarching vision and product roadmap. In this role, you will leverage your strong technical understanding of robotics system architecture, controls, and design, combined with your programming expertise. You will be an entrepreneurial, mission-driven individual tasked with actively progressing, developing, and executing the technical vision for our solar module installation robotic system. Your responsibilities will include defining, designing, developing, and programming robotics applications specifically for outdoor applications, collaborating closely with mechanical, controls, and vision/AI engineers to ensure seamless integration and functionality. The position requires a proactive approach to research and development, where you will explore new capabilities for industrial robotics, conduct rigorous testing and validation of robotics systems, and ensure that all solutions meet performance and safety requirements. You will also provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement. Staying abreast of the latest advancements in robotics and control technologies will be essential to drive innovation and enhance product performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop and implement advanced control algorithms for robotic systems, including motion planning, trajectory generation and sensor fusion.
  • Translate product level requirements into technical design criteria.
  • Lead the development and integration of robotic hardware and software components.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and validation of robotics systems to meet performance and safety requirements.
  • Research, develop, implement, and test new capabilities for industrial robotics.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful integration of robotics solutions into complex systems.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
  • Stay up to date on the latest advancements in robotics and control technologies to drive innovation and improve product performance.

Requirements

  • Masters in Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, a related robotics-focused field, or equivalent industry experience
  • 6+ years of professional work experience
  • Strong programming skills in languages such as C++, Python
  • Proficiency in ROS2 and experience with ROS hardware integration
  • Experience programming PLC/HMI, Robot (preferred KUKA)
  • Proven track record of successfully delivering complex robotics systems to market
  • Understanding of motion planning, control, perception, and/or simulation
  • Demonstrated ability, either through previous projects, advanced education/research, and/or knowledge of the robotics field
  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance (e.g. CE, FCC, UL), safety standards, risk assessment, product definition (sensors, power and electronics components)
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical skills and troubleshooting skills

  • Skill and Behavior: Capability to work dynamically and collaboratively across multiple teams in a fast-paced and technical business environment with minimal supervision.   • Technology fluency: Demonstrated ability to understand solar engineering and technology concepts, question assumptions, and make informed product and technology decisions. Technical understanding of automation, robotics, computer vision, machine learning and/or artificial intelligence, is a plus.
