About the position

The Senior Safety & Compliance Engineer at Amazon is responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance for new and existing products, particularly in the realm of Industrial Machine Safety and Safety Systems. This role involves working with cross-functional teams to interpret and apply safety regulations and standards to new technologies and products, providing technical guidance, and managing safety-related issues throughout the product development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Work on cross functional teams to perform and complete Safety & Compliance requirements for equipment/product design
  • Interpret and apply regulations, standards, and Amazon requirements to new technologies/products
  • Review equipment, including conveyance and machinery for proper guarding, interlocks, and safety features
  • Provide Safety & Compliance input during product scoping to identify concerns for operators interacting with the equipment
  • Evaluate and review schematics and drawings and provide Safety & Compliance input during product development/early design
  • Leverage Support processes, systems and tools to resolve safety related technical problems
  • Track issues through resolution phase, engaging technical subject matter experts and Safety Manager as needed
  • Manage, prioritize, and respond to the Advanced Technology Team's concerns
  • Provide technical guidance to Fulfillment Center (FC) Operations NA & EU Safety and Maintenance teams to troubleshoot operational challenges
  • Provide prompt, efficient, detailed, customer-oriented service to internal Amazon customers
  • Create and maintain problem resolution procedures and identify need for new tools to support existing solutions
  • Work with Engineering, Global Support and Amazon EHS teams to understand safety issues and solution options
  • Provide Safety Manager with the information required for decision-making
  • Compile data to facilitate analysis by the Safety team
  • Conduct internal Advanced Technology Meetings, including Design Reviews, Solutions layouts, and Risk Assessments, as required by Safety & Compliance Manager
  • Conduct external Risk Assessment, Design Reviews, Factory/Site Acceptance testing and launch support

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering, Safety or a related science-based field
  • 10+ years' experience applying safety principles and addressing safety issues in a manufacturing, warehouse or other operations focused environment
  • Technical problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • 7+ years of Safety experience, preferably certified, in relation to Robotics or Mechatronics
  • Working knowledge and experience with OSHA regulations, NRTL, CE, IEC, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, ANSI/RIA 15.06, NFPA 79, UL 508A, IEC 60204
  • Experience supporting Safety programs by means of identifying equipment needs, documentation needs, support equipment needs, staging and support of equipment to be tested, debug capabilities, etc.
  • Experience interacting with customers, regulatory agencies, test labs, etc.

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or equivalent
  • Experience working with interdisciplinary teams to execute product design from concept to production
