About the position

The Senior Sales Engineer - Strategic at Lightpath plays a pivotal role in engaging with both internal teams and external clients, particularly at the Director, VP, and C-level. This position is designed for a technical leader who can provide critical insights and guidance on strategy, investments, and innovation, leveraging a deep understanding of both technical and business impacts. The Senior Sales Engineer collaborates closely with account teams to deliver exceptional technical solutions and designs tailored to the needs of current and prospective customers. The role involves working on strategic account plans to facilitate ongoing projects, initiate new initiatives, and effectively sell Lightpath's solutions. In this capacity, the Senior Sales Engineer is expected to develop robust relationships with various teams, including Engineering, Operations, Offer/Product Management, and Service Assurance. They will represent both customer and Lightpath perspectives during the product scoping, development, and design processes. The role requires innovative thinking to create a strategic vision for serviceable and supportable products, as well as defining detailed technical requirements for product supportability. As a subject matter expert, the Senior Sales Engineer will coordinate and manage launch readiness activities, including training, while maintaining a comprehensive understanding of customer requirements and Lightpath's capabilities. The position demands a strong grasp of competitive technologies and emerging trends, enabling the Senior Sales Engineer to articulate the benefits of Lightpath's technology in customer environments. Additionally, the role involves compliance with corporate policies and completing all companywide mandates and training in a timely manner. The Senior Sales Engineer must also be adaptable, organized, and detail-oriented, with a proven track record in project management and the ability to navigate complex business situations effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Develop strong relationships with Engineering, Operations, Offer/Product Management & Service Assurance Teams.
  • Represent Customer and Lightpath viewpoints in product scoping, development and design process.
  • Think outside of the box to create a strategic vision for serviceable and supportable products.
  • Define detailed technical requirements for product supportability and assess the products against those requirements.
  • Operate as a subject matter expert focused on specific product sets.
  • Coordinate and Project Manage Launch readiness activities, such as training.
  • Ability to see and present 'the big picture' and offer solutions for improvement.
  • Understand the financial and technical challenges of customer requirements and Lightpath capabilities.
  • Articulate and understand Lightpath's technology and the benefits that can be achieved in customer environments.
  • Maintain a strong understanding of competitive technologies, competitor positioning, and emerging technologies that could be both cooperative and competitive.
  • Participate and successfully complete all companywide mandates/training in a timely manner.
  • Comply with all Ethics and professional standards.
  • Comply with all corporate and organizational security policies and guidelines.
  • Abide by all policies and procedures.
  • Perform a myriad of tasks as required and/or assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering or experience in relevant field preferred.
  • Overall Experience: 15+ years.
  • Balance of both strong technical and strong strategic skills.
  • Willing to get into deep, technical details, but also able to see the big picture and make educated trade-off decisions without getting bogged down by the details.
  • Able to develop trusted relationships and a strong internal network.
  • Displays situational fluency and perseverance to handle challenging business situations.
  • Able to negotiate and compromise to drive consensus.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate complex concepts to a broad range of technical and business audiences, including technical and business executives.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with project management experience.
  • Understanding of Cloud Services including IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS with knowledge of virtualization techniques such as VMware, Citrix, and Microsoft.
  • Understanding of AC and DC power systems as they relate to Telecom and Enterprise network and server infrastructure components.
  • Knowledge of network/routing protocols including MPLS, BGP, SIP, DWDM, SONet/SDH, Long-haul & Metro Transport, Ethernet, IP Peering Fiber Optic Outside Plant as well as VoIP technologies.
  • Experience with IP Address management and subnets.
