About the position

The Senior Scientist in Oligonucleotide Process Chemistry at Denali Therapeutics is responsible for advancing the development of oligonucleotide synthesis processes and related chemistries. This role involves conducting development studies, utilizing analytical skills to address impurity issues, and collaborating with various teams to ensure effective technology transfer and project advancement. The position requires a strong background in chemistry, particularly in oligonucleotide chemistry, and a commitment to innovative research in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Devise and carry out development studies to define and improve oligonucleotide synthesis processes and related chemistries.
  • Use analytical skills to elucidate mechanisms and mitigate impurity formation.
  • Stay updated with relevant scientific literature and utilize search tools effectively.
  • Explore innovative technologies for cost-effective high-volume oligonucleotide production.
  • Build and operate internal oligonucleotide process laboratory capabilities safely.
  • Collaborate with discovery scientists, manufacturing, and project teams to advance portfolio and manufacturing strategies.
  • Manage activities at partner CDMOs, including potential travel.
  • Author and review technical and process parameter reports, and define regulatory strategy for submissions.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related scientific discipline with a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, or M.Sc./B.Sc. with 7+ years of relevant experience.
  • Record of scientific leadership and innovation demonstrated by publications and/or patents.
  • Deep understanding of oligonucleotide chemistry, including starting material and linker chemistry, with experience in antibody bioconjugation as a plus.
  • Knowledge of stage-appropriate QC/analytics relevant to oligonucleotide syntheses.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Highly organized with the ability to plan and achieve research goals in a diverse research environment.

  • Experience with oligonucleotide starting material chemistry.
  • Experience with oligonucleotide-linker chemistry.
  • Experience with antibody bioconjugation.
