About the position

The drug-product process-modeling team in Drug Product Design (DPD) is focused on developing digital tools and computational models to enhance the quality of drug-dosage forms through batch and continuous processes. This role seeks a postgraduate-level expert process modeler to create new computational tools and system-level models that support continuous manufacturing, particularly in modeling and controlling unit operations related to powder flows, mixing, processing, and compaction.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Pfizer project scientists to understand challenges in developing drug-dosage forms.
  • Identify opportunities to apply engineering knowledge and computational tools to solve project challenges.
  • Work independently to define problem statements and develop modeling work plans.
  • Develop predictive tools and models using various computational techniques to support drug development efforts.
  • Plan and execute experimental studies in collaboration with experimental experts to validate modeling efforts.
  • Communicate and present results internally and occasionally at external forums.
  • Support Pfizer's key technology platforms through computational modeling.
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors to execute modeling projects.

Requirements

  • Post-graduate qualification (MS or PhD) in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Control Engineering, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Physical Sciences, or related discipline with a focus on computational modeling.
  • 0 - 2 years of experience in relevant fields such as chemical, mechanical, or pharmaceutical engineering with an emphasis on process modeling.
  • Strong background in numerical methods, programming, and mathematics.
  • Experience with flowsheet modeling using simulation software like gPROMS, ASPEN, or related process simulators.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and excellent organizational abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work effectively in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in programming using languages such as C/C++, Python, R, or Matlab.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing environments (Linux based).
  • Experience with software like PSE gPROMS, ASPEN, EDEM, LIGGGHTS, XPS, CFDEM, ANSYS Fluent, OpenFOAM, STAR-CCM+, or similar packages.
  • Knowledge of data analysis and visualization tools like Spotfire or Tableau.
  • Strong statistical skills.
