About the position

The Senior Scientist position in Small Molecule Analytical Research and Development at the Rahway, NJ facility focuses on developing innovative analytical methodologies for drug substances and various dosage forms. The role emphasizes collaboration within a global team to enhance drug delivery technologies and predictive analytical tools, contributing to regulatory submissions for clinical trials.

Responsibilities

  • Drive solutions to analytical development challenges for synthetic small molecule, peptide, and oligonucleotide active pharmaceutical ingredients and products.
  • Design scientific studies to inform the selection and understanding of synthetic routes, formulation compositions, and manufacturing processes.
  • Implement analytical methods for laboratory development, release, and shelf-life assessment of clinical supplies under GMP conditions.
  • Provide leadership on drug development pipeline projects and innovative technology teams shaping analytical methods and tools.
  • Author regulatory submission documents and respond to agency questions throughout the project development lifecycle.
  • Document work in a detailed and timely manner.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners in a cross-functional environment.
  • Present results of experiments and innovation efforts to project teams and at cross-functional forums.
  • Engage in the external scientific community through participation in professional organizations, conferences, and publications.

Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science, or related discipline with 0-3 years of relevant industry experience; or a Master's Degree with at least 3 years of experience; or a Bachelor's Degree with at least 7 years of industry experience.
  • Effective collaboration skills to work independently and in cross-functional teams.
  • Understanding of technical problem solving and innovative research experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate scientific concepts through publications, patents, and presentations.
  • Excellent scientific communication skills (written and oral), creativity, and interpersonal skills.
  • Desire and ability to learn new concepts outside of core expertise.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with large molecule characterization (enzymes, peptides, oligonucleotides, bioconjugates).
  • Chromatography (e.g., LC, GC) method development, analysis, and troubleshooting.
  • Other advanced analytical techniques such as mass spectrometry or dissolution.
  • Data science and design of experiment principles.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion.
