About the position

The Senior Scrum Master at Navstar is responsible for facilitating agile teams in a large-scale software and hardware integration project. This role involves leading either one large complex agile team or several smaller teams within an Agile Release Train (ART) using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe). The Scrum Master will educate teams on Scrum and Kanban methodologies, remove impediments, and foster high-performing team dynamics to ensure successful delivery of commitments during Program Increment (PI) Planning.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate self-organizing team(s) to ensure progress against Program Increment commitments.
• Protect the team from scope creep during execution of the PI.
• Remove impediments for the team and coordinate with Release Train Engineers.
• Help team members communicate, coordinate, and cooperate effectively.
• Support and enforce Scrum processes and rules.
• Ensure the team understands the Definition of Done and how to meet it.
• Coordinate with other teams on the Agile Release Trains and communicate status to management.
• Work with Product Owners to review and prioritize features.
• Lead and facilitate SAFe ceremonies including sprint planning, sprint review, demos, sprint retrospectives, and PI planning.
• Develop User Stories with Product Owners to meet Feature acceptance criteria.
• Maintain and generate information radiators for the teams.
• Collect and share team metrics, determine when new metrics are needed, and develop improvements in metrics.
• Coach teams on agile and scrum principles for continuous improvement.
• Observe team dynamics and coach the team to improve productivity.
• Create a fun sharing and learning environment and experiment with ideas to improve delivery.
• Promote teamwork to achieve sprint goals.
• Lead teams towards agile maturity.

Requirements

• Active TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.
• At least 8 years of experience as a Scrum Master or leading technical teams.
• Experience as a Scrum Master for a software development or similar technical team.
• Certified Scrum Master (CSM), SAFe Scrum Master (SSM), or similar agile project management certification (PMI-ACP).
• Experience using agile project management tools (e.g., Jira, VersionOne, Rallye, IBM RTC).
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Strong time management skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as System Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline.
• Experience with large software systems including hardware integration and testing.
• Experience with multi-disciplinary technical development teams.
• Experience using SAFe as the agile development methodology.
• Experience affecting change in organizations towards agile adoption.
• Experience applying test automation and continuous integration/deployment for quality assurance.
• Experience using Kanban to improve flow on support teams.
