About the position

The Senior Security Engineer will define and implement the security strategy for World Wide Customer Service (WWCS) at Amazon, focusing on endpoint security. This role involves delivering projects that monitor the security posture of WWCS's endpoints, ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of tools used to address customer issues. The engineer will act as a technical leader, mentor software engineers, and contribute to security product development while establishing metrics to measure security posture and staying updated on emerging threats.

Responsibilities

  • Identify observability gaps in current CSOS deployment, including network performance and security posture.
  • Develop security strategy for the next generation of CS Devices.
  • Lead the security strategy for the Data Loss Prevention program, evolving the platform into an Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) system.
  • Deliver projects and technologies that monitor the security posture of WWCS's endpoints.
  • Act as a technical leader and independent voice for information security issues in strategic planning.
  • Convey security concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership.
  • Mentor software engineers on security best practices and help them implement software securely.
  • Establish metrics and mechanisms to measure WWCS's security posture.
  • Negotiate resources for security initiatives and make autonomous decisions to drive solutions forward.

Requirements

  • BS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in security engineering with expertise in at least three of the following: threat modeling, secure coding, identity management, software development, cryptography, penetration testing, cloud security, mobile security, or network security.
  • Advanced knowledge of security engineering, system and network security, authentication and security protocols, cryptography, or application security.
  • Experience reading and writing in at least one programming language.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • 10+ years of security engineering experience across multiple domains.
  • Excellent judgment in assessing and prioritizing technical risk.
  • Strong application security background with a focus on scalable solutions.
  • Experience building and securing complex AWS architecture.
  • Experience in driving large, cross-organization initiatives.
