About the position

The Security Engineer role at Google focuses on creating and maintaining a secure operating environment for users and developers. This position involves working with network equipment, monitoring systems for attacks, and collaborating with software engineers to identify and rectify security vulnerabilities. The role is particularly centered around Google Distributed Cloud (GDC), which aims to provide a managed offering for customers who need to retain some workloads on-premises while leveraging cloud capabilities.

Responsibilities

  • Review requirements change across relevant regulatory frameworks and technical standards and determine their applicability to GDC.
  • Conduct implementation reviews and report on their findings.
  • Identify opportunities for compliance process improvements, initiate and drive engineering projects for their implementation (monitoring solutions, audit tooling, reporting and alerting, generations and collection of audit evidence).
  • Participate in compliance meetings between the GDC Compliance and GDC engineering teams and contribute subject matter expertise to support decision making.
  • Participate in certification audits and security assessments to contribute compliance-related engineering knowledge.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience with security assessments or security design reviews or threat modeling.
  • 5 years of experience with security engineering, computer and network security, and security protocols.
  • 5 years of coding experience in one or more general purpose languages.
  • 1 year of experience leading teams in a technical capacity or leading technical risk analysis in an enterprise environment.
  • 1 year of experience in compliance.

Nice-to-haves

  • 3 years of experience in Cloud security.
  • Experience with audits, including standards, implementation, and technology.
  • Experience managing, configuring, and supporting a large engineering project.
  • Familiarity with attestation audits.
