About the position

The Analytics Center of Excellence (Analytics COE) is a pioneering initiative that leverages global healthcare insights in collaboration with clinical and therapeutic experts to enhance evidence-driven design, expedite site activation, and improve patient recruitment for clinical trials. By utilizing big data and advanced analytics, the Analytics COE aims to transform clinical development processes, facilitating the faster delivery of new medicines to patients through successful trial execution. This multi-functional team embodies innovation within the organization, necessitating entrepreneurial and independent thinking to build and enhance our capabilities. The Analytics COE presents a unique opportunity to revolutionize the clinical research industry on a global scale. In this senior engineer position within the Analytics COE department of the Research & Development Solutions organization (R DSIT), the Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) will be responsible for designing and implementing a hybrid cloud strategy that encompasses both public cloud (AWS) and on-premises deployments. This strategy will support distributed software systems that cater to various scenarios related to clinical trials and other aspects of IQVIA's pharma/tech business. The role is highly collaborative, requiring close partnership with peer SREs, IT groups, and software engineering teams to establish environments, deploy applications, set metrics, and achieve infrastructure performance and stability targets. The ideal candidate will possess not only infrastructure expertise but also substantial software engineering experience, enabling them to engage in design, development, and leadership activities effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Consultation and collaboration with software development teams
  • Actively participate in Agile practices
  • Assist with infosec assessments
  • Work with cloud infrastructure providers
  • Configure deployment automation frameworks
  • Establish best practices for consistency among software development teams
  • Drive continuous improvement and take proactive steps to enhance product quality and process efficiency
  • Research current and emerging industry tools and techniques and share findings with colleagues
  • Deliver robust, high-quality, reliable engineering outcomes in cross-functional autonomous scrum teams
  • Foster curiosity and innovation
  • Develop automated CI/CD pipelines that deploy to both on-premises clusters and to the cloud
  • Design and lead engineering efforts for building business applications
  • Collaborate with engineers and leaders from other organizations within IQVIA
  • Support the product owner by understanding business requirements and assisting the team in breaking these into stories
  • Lead cross-team exercises, including DevOps incident management bridges
  • Lead documentation efforts for product architecture and security compliance
  • Conduct security assessments and product readiness evaluations
  • Perform code reviews for work submitted by other engineers
  • Mentor interns, apprentices, and other engineers

Requirements

  • Software design and development experience
  • Linux experience with the ability to configure environments through the use of software tools
  • Experience using Docker to build, test, and deploy containers
  • Kubernetes - ability to deploy applications
  • Automated provisioning (Terraform, Ansible, etc.)
  • Experience with CI/CD tools to build, test, and deploy
  • Experience with core AWS services, uses, and basic AWS architecture best practices
  • Experience using GitHub (or similar VCS) for committing, branching, and merging
  • Solid understanding of microservices and RESTful services
  • Solid understanding of relational database management systems
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • 5+ years of relevant collaborative software engineering experience
  • 2+ years in full-time engineering roles at least in two companies
  • Solid understanding of computer science fundamentals
  • Demonstrated in-depth understanding of the product development lifecycle
  • Experience deploying code into production through CI/CD tools
  • Prior experience leading engineering projects or teams
  • Demonstrated aptitude for and interest in peer mentorship
