About the position

The Senior Site Reliability Engineer at Centene Corporation plays a crucial role in managing and maintaining the performance, reliability, and security of platform infrastructure. This position involves leading projects that utilize Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices and observability tools to automate monitoring activities and resolve performance issues. The engineer will also advocate for standardized software tools, troubleshoot service disruptions, and lead project teams through deployment processes, ensuring systems operate at optimum performance.

Responsibilities

  • Helps lead projects focused on managing and maintaining platform infrastructure performance, reliability, and security using SRE practices.
  • Develops complex services to automate monitoring activities and provide critical information for performance and availability issues.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex problems with systems and services, initiating regular deployments of new versions.
  • Leads projects focused on building and maintaining observability/monitoring for applications and key performance indicators.
  • Makes decisions around system validation, testing, service monitoring, and new services/tools.
  • Identifies strategies to increase system reliability and performance through on-call rotation and process optimization.
  • Implements manual and automated procedures for improved collaborative response in real-time.
  • Leads lower-level engineers in stress, security, and performance testing.
  • Resolves issues through support escalation and keeps documentation and runbooks up to date.
  • Leads post-incident reviews and documents findings for future decision-making.
  • Reviews proposals to optimize the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) for service reliability.
  • Communicates complex topics with development teams to investigate and document issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business field (e.g., statistics, mathematics, engineering, computer science).
  • 4 - 6 years of related experience or equivalent experience reflecting the level of this position.
  • Experience with Linux, Unix, and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Familiarity with observability/monitoring tools such as Splunk, Dynatrace, Elastic, New Relic, Prometheus, Grafana.
  • Experience with enterprise-level CI/CD tools like Ansible, Jenkins, Cloudbees, OpenShift.
  • Experience working in public cloud platforms like AWS and Azure.
  • Knowledge of programming tools and building highly scaled applications.
  • Experience with databases such as MongoDB, MySQL, Oracle DBMS, PL SQL, SQL.
  • Familiarity with code repositories and auto deployments using Gitlab, Bitbucket, Subversion.
  • Experience with IT service management tools like Service Now, Atlassian, BMC.
