About the position

The Senior Systems Engineer role at AWS Managed Operations (MO) focuses on improving the reliability, performance, and efficiency of AWS Regions through both day-to-day operations and long-term engineering projects. The position requires a balance between operational responsibilities and software engineering to reduce operational toil, while supporting the development and management of various AWS services.

Responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day operations of AWS software systems.
• Drive long-term engineering projects to reduce operational toil.
• Support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, IoT, Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS.
• Improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of AWS Regions.
• Collaborate with service teams to enhance resilience and reliability of products.

Requirements

• 9+ years of relevant systems engineering or systems administration experience using Operating Systems, networking, and storage systems.
• 5+ years of experience in Systems Engineering, DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), or Enterprise Production in Windows/Linux environments.
• 3+ years of experience operating in a 24/7 production environment.
• 3+ years of experience with a scripting language such as Perl, Python, Ruby, or PowerShell.

Nice-to-haves

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline.
• 15+ years of experience with cloud computing technologies.
• 6+ years of networking experience.
• 6+ years of experience with support procedures and methodologies for production computing environments.
• Experience with Agile engineering practices (Scrum, continuous delivery, etc).
