About the position

The Senior Site Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Manager at Amazon is responsible for ensuring compliance with WHS policies and local regulations at a designated site. This role involves leading continuous improvement initiatives to enhance safety and health in the workplace, training operations leadership, and developing a team of safety professionals. The position requires effective communication and the ability to influence change through risk assessments and safety data analysis.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with site operations team to execute WHS policies and ensure compliance with local and regional regulations.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce conditional and ergonomic risks.
  • Build trust and confidence with cross-functional operations teams.
  • Provide comprehensive risk assessments and safety data analysis.
  • Instruct and train operations leadership and site WHS professionals in EHS policies.
  • Develop a team of safety managers and safety professionals at the designated site.
  • Create and execute leadership development plans for the safety team.
  • Act as a subject matter expert on local/regional regulations and company WHS policy.
  • Measure site performance against safety policy requirements and identify plans for deficiencies.
  • Ensure safety record keeping and data integrity, providing accurate reporting and metrics.
  • Deep dive into safety metrics and incident trends to allocate resources effectively.
  • Audit record keeping practices and Global Safety Database entries for compliance.
  • Manage and mentor Safety Managers and Safety Associates at the site.
  • Engage Injury Prevention Specialists and Site Leadership for incident reduction strategies.
  • Perform targeted Kaizen events based on identified risks.
  • Ensure site leadership and associates are trained on their responsibilities under safety policies.
  • Audit the quality and effectiveness of safety training and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7+ years of experience in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing, production, or service operations
  • 7+ years of experience in people and performance management
  • CPR/First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain within 3 weeks of start
  • Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment
  • Willingness to work a variety of shifts, including nights and weekends.

  • Master's degree preferred

  • Experience in a fast-paced, dynamic organization
  • Interest in long-term career development through assignments in multiple FCs across the nation
  • Prior experience in a management development training program
  • Track record of effectively managing a safety operation comprising both salaried and hourly staff
  • Demonstrated experience in developing others into higher levels of responsibility in an organization
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including comfort interfacing with Directors and VPs
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
