About the position

The Senior Social Worker is assigned to the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary Program (BHIP) within the Mental Health Care Line at the Department of Veterans Affairs. This role involves providing specialized treatment for complex physical or mental illnesses, conducting intakes, and offering psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups. The position requires advanced knowledge in evidence-based psychotherapies and the ability to work collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team to deliver high-quality care to veterans.

Responsibilities

  • Perform specialized treatment of complex physical or mental illnesses.
  • Conduct intakes and provide psychotherapy to individuals, couples, and groups.
  • Utilize advanced level case management interventions for veterans with various disorders.
  • Provide consultation to colleagues and students on psychosocial treatment.
  • Monitor the efficiency and effectiveness of services offered within the program area.
  • Champion discharge planning and psychosocial needs for veterans.
  • Ensure social work practice is evidence-based and adheres to recognized treatment methods.
  • Mentor and provide technical assistance to entry-level social workers.

Requirements

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school.
  • Licensed or certified to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • At least two years of experience post-advanced practice clinical licensure, with one year equivalent to GS-11 level.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in specialized interventions and treatment modalities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification in evidence-based psychotherapies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or EMDR.
  • Experience in working with veterans or similar populations.
