About the position

The Senior Social Worker is responsible for providing direct social work services to adult Veterans and their families in the Emergency Department (ED) or Urgent Care Center. This role involves assessing and addressing the complex biopsychosocial needs of patients, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, and ensuring equitable access to services. The Senior Social Worker also plays a key role in mentoring staff and students, developing crisis management plans, and participating in various committees to enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

  • Provide direct social work services for adult Veterans and their families in the Emergency Department.
  • Assess and address complex biopsychosocial concerns of patients and their families.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive health care services.
  • Offer consultation and mentorship to colleagues and students in specialty areas.
  • Document interventions in the Veteran's clinical record using the computerized patient record system (CPRS).
  • Participate in committees and community-based initiatives as required.
  • Develop crisis management plans and make rapid assessments during emergencies.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work.
  • Licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level.
  • At least two years of experience post-advanced practice clinical licensure, with one year equivalent to GS-11 level.
  • Knowledge of medical and mental health diagnoses, disabilities, and treatment procedures.
  • Ability to coordinate services and make appropriate referrals to community resources.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certification or post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization.
  • Experience in specialized areas of social work practice.
