About the position

The Senior Software Architect for Modeling and Simulation at The Aerospace Corporation plays a crucial role in leading software architecture design teams to modernize major software workflows for high performance and cloud computing. This position involves proactive coordination and consultation with customers and staff, focusing on enhancing modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities to support government and commercial needs. The role requires a blend of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic planning to drive innovation and deliver complex software solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a department senior liaison, providing proactive coordination and consultation to customers and Aerospace staff.
  • Lead software architecture design teams for modernizing major software workflows for high performance and cloud computing.
  • Initiate and conduct efforts to grow and sustain modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities.
  • Apply leadership and coordination across multi-disciplinary technical leaders and external customers.
  • Partner with analysis leads to influence key stakeholders and customers in modernizing workflows.
  • Support organizational and capability strategic planning to identify development opportunities.
  • Engage with software end users and customers to refine capability requirements.
  • Mentor team members and direct workflow development to mature technical expertise.
  • Communicate project progress and recommended design solutions to technical leads, management, and customers.
  • Travel as necessary to support customer efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM
  • 8 years of related and progressive experience
  • Experience in designing modern software architectures
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical lead of a software project
  • Proficiency in developing software updates and understanding their integration into larger software structures
  • Proficiency in core computer languages such as Python or C++
  • Experience leveraging software configuration management and collaboration tools (Bitbucket, Jira, GitHub, etc.)
  • Experience in mentoring and talent development initiatives
  • Ability to communicate effectively through technical writing and presentations
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to corporate or customer locations
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

Nice-to-haves

  • Advanced degree in STEM
  • Experience in space domain modeling, simulation, and analysis
  • Experience with Aerospace customers and industry players
  • Experience with agent-based modeling tools such as AFSIM
  • Current TS/SCI or higher security clearance.
