About the position

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking a Senior Software Architect for its Modeling and Simulation Computing Department. This role involves leading software architecture design teams to modernize software workflows for high performance and cloud computing. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders to enhance modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities, supporting both government and commercial customer needs. The successful candidate will engage in strategic planning, mentor team members, and communicate project progress effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a department senior liaison, providing proactive coordination and consultation to customers and Aerospace staff.
  • Lead software architecture design teams for modernizing major software workflows for high performance and cloud computing.
  • Initiate and conduct efforts to grow and sustain modeling, simulation, and analysis capabilities.
  • Apply leadership and coordination across multi-disciplinary technical leaders and external customers.
  • Partner with analysis leads to influence key stakeholders and customers in modernizing workflows.
  • Support organizational and capability strategic planning, identifying opportunities to leverage development across projects.
  • Engage with software end users to refine capability requirements.
  • Mature technical expertise in the department through mentoring team members.
  • Routinely communicate project progress and recommended design solutions to technical leads, management, and customers.
  • Travel as necessary to support customer efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM.
  • 8 years of related and progressive experience.
  • Experience in designing modern software architectures.
  • Demonstrated experience as a technical lead of a software project.
  • Proficiency in developing software updates and understanding their integration into larger software structures.
  • Proficiency in one or more core computer languages such as Python or C++.
  • Experience leveraging software configuration management and collaboration tools (Bitbucket, Jira, GitHub, etc.).
  • Experience in building technical proficiency through mentoring and talent development initiatives.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through technical writing and presentations.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally to corporate or customer locations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

  • Advanced degree in STEM.
  • Experience in space domain modeling, simulation, and analysis.
  • Experience with Aerospace customers and industry.
