About the position

The Systems Test Engineer at Wisk will play a crucial role in the development and testing of the next generation Electrical VTOL aircraft Energy Storage and Power Systems (ESPS). This position involves designing, assembling, and commissioning test assets, leading battery component and system level test campaigns, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the successful implementation of testing protocols. The role requires a hands-on approach to troubleshooting and automating test processes, contributing to the advancement of urban mobility through innovative technology.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of battery component and system level test campaigns, including battery performance and manufacturing end-of-line testing.
  • Review schematics and datasheets of various electrical components and hardware on the battery pack from internal teams and external vendors.
  • Develop test automation scripts and Graphical User Interface (GUI) on LabVIEW and/or Python.
  • Develop wiring diagrams and create harness drawings.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical and software issues on the test assets.
  • Automate test execution, data collection and post-processing to increase test cadence and reporting, ease operation and safety.
  • Work closely with a cross functional team to develop test requirements and test plans.
  • Design mechanical and electrical test fixtures used for PCBA and component level power electronics and battery testing.
  • Select and integrate transducers and data acquisition devices into test assets.
  • Write test specifications, operation manuals and test procedures.

Requirements

  • B.S. or M.S. in Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics or related engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience working with high voltage battery systems.
  • Knowledge of batteries, battery management systems and/or power electronics.
  • Experience interpreting PCB Schematics, Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and component datasheets.
  • Proficiency with LabVIEW and/or Python.
  • Experience integrating off-the-shelf test equipment (power supplies, electronic loads, etc.) and DAQs into test setups.
  • Experience working with I2C, SPI and/or RS-485 protocols.
  • Experience with data acquisition devices (NI, Keysight, LabJack) and transducers.
  • Hands-on experience designing and assembling tests assets or stations for entirely new hardware.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency with CAD software (NX preferred).
  • Familiar with drafting standards, including GD&T, and can interpret or create engineering drawings.
  • Familiarity with aviation test standards including DO-311, DO-160 and MIL-810.
  • Hands on experience with machine shop equipment.
  • Experience with executing abuse tests on Li-ion batteries.
  • Experience with using battery cyclers.
  • Experience with working with facility upgrades.
