About the position

The Senior Software Developer at UNITE HERE is responsible for building, integrating, and supporting software tools that enable the Union's campaigns. This role is designed for an intermediate-level full-stack or back-end developer who demonstrates team leadership and adheres to good technology practices. The developer will work collaboratively to enhance existing software, develop new features, and support a range of tools and technologies used by the Union, with a focus on empowering workers in the hospitality industry.

Responsibilities

  • Develop new features and enhance existing features of UNITE HERE's software suite.
  • Upgrade software packages and improve supportability.
  • Troubleshoot and fix issues within the software.
  • Collaborate with other developers and department staff to support required applications.
  • Review code and pair with team members to maintain high standards for quality.
  • Maintain high unit test coverage and build a robust release testing framework.
  • Create project plans that balance features, technology, people, and timelines.
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap and bigger picture planning for the team.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and technology developments.

Requirements

  • Motivation to work for economic and social justice.
  • Degree in information technology or computer science, or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of software development and its technologies.
  • 7+ years of relevant development experience.
  • Experience with three or more of the following technologies: Angular, HTML/CSS, Python, C#, .NET, Ruby, MS SQL, Postgres SQL.
  • Familiarity with platforms and infrastructure such as Azure, AWS, Windows, Linux, Docker, Terraform, DevOps, GitHub, and Jenkins.
  • Knowledge of agile development practices.
