About the position

Bay Systems Consulting is seeking a Senior Software Developer to support the Deep Space Network (DSN) program with JPL and NASA. This role involves designing solutions, leading a team of software engineers, and developing capabilities to support customer missions in an agile environment. The position requires collaboration with customers to identify needs and translate them into actionable work, ultimately contributing to the advancement of interplanetary spacecraft missions and scientific exploration.

Responsibilities

• Participate in the research, recommendations, and architecture discussions for the DSN O&M Program Office vision.
• Act as the technical/development lead for DSN O&M Program MAPI applications and tool suite.
• Document client requirements, system architectures, test plans, and test cases.
• Develop software design artifacts to capture high-level design elements.
• Create work structures for a team of software developers in the form of agile user stories.
• Support software development and completion of user stories.
• Work with the development team to verify and validate changes to the system, troubleshoot issues, and support system upgrades.
• Follow software and engineering best practices and customer processes.
• Develop cutting-edge custom client/server applications.

Requirements

• 5 years of experience with BS/BA; 3 years with MS/MA; 0 years with PhD. 4 years of relevant experience will be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree.
• 3-5 years leading a software development team.
• Experience with information system operation and sustainment.
• Experience with relational database design/implementation.
• Comprehensive understanding of both the waterfall and agile life cycles.
• Experience with general Web Development (HTML, JavaScript, CSS), C# .NET Framework, PHP, Visual Basic, ASP.NET, Microsoft IIS, Jira, React / Angular, NodeJS, Containerization.

Nice-to-haves

• 2-5 years working in Java and understanding service-based design.
• 1-3 years working in JavaScript frameworks such as React.
• Experience testing, supporting, and deploying systems/software at a government site.
• Ability to anticipate problems and take decisive action.
• Ability to find innovative ways to solve problems.
• Experience working within a rigorous engineering process e.g. CMMI Level III or greater and employing engineering best practices.
• Experience in Cloud-based development environments.
