About the position

Discord is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to develop the next generation of social gaming features. This role focuses on enhancing user interaction and engagement on the platform, particularly around gaming. The engineer will collaborate with various teams to drive technical solutions and ensure high-quality execution of new products.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leads and senior engineers on the team to drive projects on Activity Feed.
  • Provide feedback on the work of other engineers and mentor junior team members.
  • Partner with Product, Design, Marketing, Partnerships, and Machine Learning to prototype, test, and release new features.
  • Drive technical excellence through direct and indirect contributions.
  • Maintain a sharp focus on the quality of execution and deliver pixel perfect experiences to users.
  • Partner with leadership on strategic planning and improve processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in software development.
  • Understanding of development frameworks and fundamentals for web (React, TypeScript), Android (React Native, Kotlin), iOS (React Native, Objective-C, Swift), and backend (Python, Elixir).
  • Experience building and shipping experimental product features, especially for large scale or real-time applications.
  • Ability to view mistakes as learning opportunities and build upon successes.
  • Strong collaboration skills with product managers, designers, analysts, and other engineers.
