About the position

The Senior Software Engineer - Audio Drivers position at Microsoft involves developing high-quality audio drivers for Windows, focusing on optimizing device experiences for first-generation silicon. This role requires collaboration with various teams, including silicon architects and OEMs, to ensure seamless integration of hardware and software. The engineer will be responsible for the entire software lifecycle in a device development environment, emphasizing performance, stability, and feature enhancements.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Drives identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for features.
  • Creates, implements, optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverages subject-matter expertise of product features and partners with appropriate stakeholders to drive a workgroup's project plans, release plans, and work items.
  • Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operations at scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years experience with Windows OS fundamentals and audio driver development.
  • 2+ years experience coding in C/C++ developing firmware and/or device drivers.
  • 2+ years' experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years Windows OS fundamentals and audio driver development.
  • 4+ years coding in C/C++ developing firmware and/or device drivers.
  • 4+ years' experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interactions.
  • Familiarity with System on Chip (SOC) hardware architecture and software for SOC.
  • Ability to quickly ramp up on complex and unfamiliar code.
  • Proven track record of shipping high volume consumer devices.
