About the position

The Senior Software Engineer - Audio Driver position at Microsoft involves developing high-quality audio drivers for Windows, contributing to the delivery of compelling user experiences on first-generation silicon. The role requires close collaboration with various teams, including silicon architects and the Windows OS platform team, to optimize device performance and stability. The engineer will be responsible for the entire software lifecycle in a device development environment, focusing on kernel and user-mode driver development, as well as debugging hardware and software interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with appropriate stakeholders to determine user requirements for a scenario.
  • Drive identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for features.
  • Create, implement, optimize, debug, refactor, and reuse code to establish and improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Leverage subject-matter expertise of product features and partner with appropriate stakeholders to drive a workgroup's project plan, release plan, and work items.
  • Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products while also driving consistency in monitoring and operation at scale.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience with Windows OS fundamentals and audio driver development.
  • 2+ years of experience coding in C/C++ developing firmware and/or device drivers.
  • 2+ years of experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interaction.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of Windows OS fundamentals and audio driver development.
  • 4+ years of coding in C/C++ developing firmware and/or device drivers.
  • 4+ years of experience working with and debugging hardware/firmware/software interaction.
  • Familiarity with System on Chip (SOC) hardware architecture and software for SOC.
  • Ability to quickly ramp up on complex and unfamiliar code.
  • Proven track record of shipping high volume consumer devices.
