About the position

The Senior Software Engineer in the DevEx AI team at PayPal will design, develop, and enhance tools and services utilizing AI technologies, including Generative AI and Prompt Engineering. This role aims to improve product discovery and enhance the overall experience for merchants and developers by creating innovative tools that leverage the latest AI models and technologies.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, performant, and robust applications using frameworks like Java Spring Boot and GoLang.
• Drive innovation by researching and incorporating various Conversational AI, Gen AI, and machine learning techniques for building software solutions.
• Implement search result optimization methodologies to improve search capabilities, currently using Algolia for Search.
• Participate in architectural discussions, code reviews, and pair programming sessions, leading by example.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine product requirements and build optimal software solutions.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience with backend development, preferably using Java.
• Familiarity with server-side JavaScript, node.js, and express.js.
• Strong experience with search implementations like Algolia and Vector Search.
• Experience building and configuring AI assistants, chatbots, or similar user-facing AI-based product solutions.
• Experience working with various proprietary and open-source language models.
• Experience with RAG systems and understanding of abstraction models like langchain and Llama index.
