About the position

The Senior Software Engineer II, Data Governance role at Etsy focuses on enhancing the efficiency of data usage for internal customers by developing systems that ensure data quality and governance. This position is part of the Data Discovery team, which aims to modernize Etsy's relationship with data and streamline the navigation of its vast data lake. The engineer will work on impactful projects, utilizing technologies such as Python, Google Cloud Platform, and various data governance tools, while fostering a collaborative environment with internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Develop metrics, tools, and dashboards to understand data storage and usage patterns.
• Collaborate with other engineering teams to optimize data storage and access.
• Build tools to support data storage and access processes.
• Work closely with internal customers to identify their struggles and engineer solutions.
• Guide the roadmap, design, and implement solutions for data discovery and management of technical debt.
• Mentor peers and less experienced engineers by sharing best practices and feedback.

Requirements

• Proficiency in Python programming language.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience with Docker and Kubernetes for building and monitoring cloud services.
• Knowledge of infrastructure as code technologies like Terraform, AWS Cloud Formation, or Ansible.
• Experience with Big Data tools such as Spark and BigQuery.
• Familiarity with data governance tools like Datahub and Great Expectations.
• Strong communication skills to collaborate with diverse teams.
