About the position

Peraton is seeking a Senior Level Software Engineer to support the NOAA's Space Weather Follow On L1 (SWFO-L1) Program, which involves a satellite mission aimed at collecting data and measurements from the Sun. The role requires collaboration with Subject Matter Experts and cross-functional teams to ensure system compatibility and support satellite operations. The position allows for a hybrid work schedule, combining on-site and remote support, and involves developing, testing, and maintaining software applications primarily in C, C++, and Java.

Responsibilities

  • Join a team of Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) for C2 Satellite Ground Station Command and Control applications ensuring system compatibility to meet program technical and schedule objectives.
  • Collaborate with other SMEs, software developers, and cross-functional teams to define, design, and implement capabilities to support satellite operations, and participate in code reviews.
  • Collaborate with customers' technical and operational leads to support satellite validation, verification, and operations providing constructive feedback.
  • Generate and maintain new and existing software applications for command and control (C2) systems.
  • Perform analysis, troubleshooting, anomaly resolution, and testing related to new and existing software applications.
  • Develop, test, and maintain software applications in use of command and control (C2) systems primarily using C, C++, and Java.
  • Recognize and adopt best practices in documentation, testing, and efficient use of resources.
  • Utilize basic administration and configuration of RedHat Enterprise Linux to resolve configuration issues and integrate Red Hat Linux systems with other existing environments.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 12+ years experience with a BS/BA degree; 10+ years experience with an MS/MA; Minimum of 7 years experience with a Ph.D.
  • Solid understanding of programming concepts and principles.
  • Proficiency in C, C++, and Java.
  • Familiarity with build tools (Make).
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to complete and pass a federal government Public Trust background investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in scripting languages (Perl, Python, Bash).
  • Knowledge of version control systems (ClearCase/ClearQuest).
  • Experience in satellite operations or developing ground system software for C2 systems (preferably OS/COMET).

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $104,000 - $166,000 based on experience and other factors.
