About the position

The Sr. Software Engineer at Markel is responsible for developing and maintaining multi-tiered software solutions that support insurance and financial services. This role involves collaboration with peers and management to create scalable solutions, working both independently and as part of a development team. The engineer will engage with Business Analysts, Quality Assurance, and Business Stakeholders to define requirements and propose technological solutions, while adhering to coding standards and staying updated on emerging technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, maintain, and enhance n-tier Windows/Web applications using C#, .Net, Web APIs (REST/JSON), WCF, .Net Core, GRPC, SOLID Principles, LINQ, Entity Framework, Blazor, MVC, MS SQL Server, and DevOps/TFS.
  • Perform data analysis and troubleshooting to minimize software issues and ensure data integrity.
  • Build and modify unit tests for new and existing modules.
  • Provide data analysis, designs, and modeling for new software solutions based on business processes.
  • Produce relationship diagrams, entity descriptions, and data structures to present solutions clearly to peers and business end users.
  • Collaborate with Business Stakeholders, Business Analysts, and other IT groups to define and recommend scalable, maintainable, and efficient software solutions.
  • Occasionally work late evenings and weekends as needed.

Requirements

  • College degree preferred, high school diploma required.
  • 5+ years of client/server and/or Internet/Web application development experience.
  • 3+ years using the specified tools and technologies.
  • 3+ years of experience developing software using a SQL database, preferably MS SQL Server.
  • US Work Authorization required.
