About the position

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) role at Box involves building software, frameworks, and tools to ensure the reliable operation of Box's services across multiple cloud environments. This position is critical in managing the stability and performance of Box's production applications while fostering collaboration and engineering principles across teams. The role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies and contribute to the integration of AI into Box's content cloud.

Responsibilities

  • Build software, frameworks, and tools for reliable operations of Box's services across multiple cloud environments.
  • Manage the stability and operation of critical production applications through application reviews, capacity planning, and performance tuning.
  • Develop automations, frameworks, and tools for better platform reliability and availability.
  • Collaborate with engineers and cross-functional teams to uphold solid engineering principles and represent engineering values.
  • Participate in various POCs on new projects and frameworks being evaluated for the product/platforms.
  • Improve observability as a developer/maintainer of systems/frameworks and mentor product development teams.
  • Participate in a team on-call rotation.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience coding in higher level languages (e.g. Python, Go, RUST).
  • Experience in designing complex systems/frameworks following NALSD methodologies.
  • Experience in configuration and maintenance of applications such as web servers, load balancers, databases, storage systems, orchestration, and observability platforms.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience in a distributed Linux systems environment.
  • Experience with modern cloud technologies like GCP, AWS, and K8S.
  • Experience with service observability best practices and tools (e.g., Splunk, ELK, Prometheus, OTEL, SignalFx).
  • Experience using industry standard DevOps tools (Terraform, Jenkins, Argo, jsonnett).
  • Ability to inspire and mentor junior engineers.

Nice-to-haves

  • Familiarity with Java/Scala or PHP/JavaScript/NodeJS.
