About the position

The Senior Software Engineer-Splunk at Humana is a key role within the IT Enterprise Observability engineering team, responsible for enhancing and maintaining the company's Splunk installation. This position requires a hands-on approach to managing Splunk configuration files and applications, supporting the full system engineering life-cycle, and collaborating with various teams to ensure optimal performance and integration of Splunk solutions. The engineer will act as a subject matter expert, providing troubleshooting support and developing strategies for log ingestion and data normalization.

Responsibilities

  • Support and improve the company's Splunk installation.
  • Maintain Splunk configuration files and apps.
  • Provide support for the full system engineering life-cycle.
  • Ensure software is developed to meet functional, non-functional, and compliance requirements.
  • Code solutions and perform unit testing.
  • Ensure the solution can be integrated successfully into the overall application/system with clear, robust, and well-tested interfaces.
  • Provide engineering and administration in supporting complex and large Splunk environments consisting of search heads, indexers, deployment servers, heavy/universal forwarders, etc.
  • System performance and optimization.
  • Collaborate and be the Splunk subject matter expert for Enterprise Observability Splunk Cloud Platform.
  • Work in partnership with Enterprise Security, Site Reliability Engineering, and IT Operations teams.
  • Perform troubleshooting, work through complex requirements/solutions, and provide assistance/coaching with the creation of Splunk search queries and dashboards.

Requirements

  • Associates degree and minimum 7 years of experience as a Splunk Engineer, or 10 years of experience in lieu of a degree.
  • 6+ years of experience administering Splunk in distributed deployments.
  • Subject Matter Expert in Splunk and AWS Cloud Platforms.
  • 6+ years of experience in creating Splunk search queries and dashboards.
  • 4+ years of experience in supporting complex and large Splunk environments.
  • 4+ years of experience configuring and maintaining the tool in a multi-tenant environment.
  • 4+ years of experience with Splunk performing systems administration, including installation, configuration, monitoring system performance and availability, upgrades, and troubleshooting.
  • Subject Matter Expert in developing log ingestion and aggregation strategies per Splunk best practices.
  • Subject Matter Expert at data onboarding activities including routing, parsing, and normalizing events to the Splunk Common Information Model (CIM).
  • 4+ years of experience with Splunk Common Information Model (CIM) and Enterprise Analytics.
  • Splunk Certified Core Power User.
  • Splunk Certified Enterprise Admin.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, ability to work closely with multiple customers, manage expectations and track engagement scope.
  • Must be a self-starter, autonomously prioritize and successfully deliver results.
