About the position

The Senior Software Engineer at Highmark Health is a key member of an agile team responsible for developing scalable software applications across various digital channels. This role involves taking an enterprise-wide architectural view of solutions and executing technical products that meet platform needs. The engineer will engage in all phases of the software application build process, from idea generation to technical design and development, utilizing the latest technologies and design patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design and create engineering specifications for software applications and programs.
• Write code that adheres to coding standards and perform code reviews.
• Generate ideas and implement technical solutions to achieve required product features while monitoring technical processes against project plans.
• Participate in all scrum ceremonies, assist in sprint planning, and complete required sprints in software development.
• Drive story creation including Definition of Done (DoD), Acceptance Criteria, and estimation; create tasks in software like RTC or Jira and update status accordingly.
• Monitor work against production schedules and provide progress updates, reporting any issues to lead developers regularly.
• Mentor associate and intermediate software engineers as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• 5 years of proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns in building and deploying scalable, highly available systems.
• 5 years of experience in at least one modern programming language such as Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, or Informatica.

• Master's Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
